What is the sizzly ordering app?

The catering, gastronomy and event app is the central application for caterers and restaurateurs to manage stores, points of sale, vending machines, articles, menus and weekly meal plans.

What is the sizzly backoffice app?

The backoffice app for the central management of user accounts (orderers/end users) and is mainly used in a catering context—for example, in companies, schools, daycare centers, or public institutions.

Functions at a glance:

  • Independent administration of user accounts by authorized departments (e.g. HR departments, secretariats, management)

  • Linking NFC employee ID cards or student cards with user accounts

  • Creating and deleting user profiles

  • Insight into transactions, credit balances and account activities

The backoffice app the basis for internal support within an organization. Admins can respond directly to user requests and provide assistance independently—quickly, securely, and in compliance with data protection regulations.

Do I have to sizzly all features of sizzly ?

Every business is different - which is precisely why sizzly is not a rigid system, but a flexible modular system that adapts to your individual requirements.

(Pre-)orders, articles & store:

How exactly do pre-orders work?

Pre-orders are ideal for use in canteens, for takeaway or for deliveries. Users order their desired items within individually definable deadlines - for the next few hours, days or weeks.

Your advantage: You can plan more precisely, manage your shopping more effectively and reduce food waste.

If a pre-order system doesn't suit your process, that's no problem:
sizzly also supports spontaneous purchases - quickly, directly on site and without any lead time. The app adapts flexibly to your process - not the other way around.

Do I have to use the principle with pre-orders for my canteen?

No, pre-orders are not compulsory!
If you prefer to buy on the spur of the moment, you can have the food delivered to you easily and flexibly on site - payment is then made at the till, by card, cash or credit, depending on the application. We also implement this option for you smartly and smoothly.

Are there also collective/group orders?

The sizzly ordering app collective and group orders – ideal for kindergartens, elementary schools, nursing homes, hospitals, and similar institutions.

Instead of cumbersome Excel lists or paper forms, the entire ordering process runs digitally and conveniently directly in the app. Group orderers benefit from a clear weekly view in which they can quickly and easily enter the required quantities per day. Changes, cancellations and adjustments can also be made easily within the deadlines set by the caterer.

This makes order processing much more efficient and better tailored to the requirements of modern catering solutions.

Can a caterer have customers with different ordering methods?

The order and payment method can be defined individually for each customer organization. Different variants can even be easily combined within one organization.

Example: A caterer supplies different facilities with customized processes:

  • KiTa: The KiTa management places collective orders on account.

  • Nursing home: Ward managers create collective orders on account, which are sent to the caterer as a total order.

  • Secondary school: Students pre-order individually for the week; pick-up and billing are done via the student ID card, to which digital credit can be deposited.

  • Company: Employees order individually for specific days; permanent employees pay via payroll and receive allowances, while guests and external workers pay with digital payment methods.

Can different sales outlets/locations be mapped in sizzly ?

If an organization has several points of sale, for example:

  • A company with a canteen, bistro, bakery and vending machines

  • A restaurant group with several locations

  • An event with various serving points, food trucks and drinks trolleys

then employees, guests or visitors receive a clearly laid out page with all available store profiles. The product range and settings can be managed and adapted individually for each sales outlet.

If there is only one point of sale, you are forwarded directly to the relevant store profile - quickly and easily.

Do all users automatically see all points of sale?

For more complex organizational structures or customers, sales outlets and stores can be assigned hierarchically via sub-organizations or user roles.

Example:
A company with several locations organizes access rights as follows:

  • Location 1: Large plant with several canteens, bakeries and vending machines. Employees only see the stores at this location.

  • Locations 2 & 3: Smaller external locations with one canteen each. Employees only see their own location.

  • Sales and support staff and management (who frequently move between locations): Have access to all sales outlets at all locations.

Even if advance orders are not used everywhere, it is ensured that all employees at all locations can make spontaneous purchases with their employee ID card at all points of sale.

What article information can be stored?

In sizzly you can store comprehensive information about each item - including name, description, image, category, price, ingredients, ingredients and allergens.

Depending on the product type, you also have the option of entering all legally required information, such as nutritional values, best-before date, packaging size and preparation instructions, especially for pre-packaged products.

Can items such as size, side dishes, dips, deposit, etc. be added?

Can articles be filtered according to allergens?

The store profile can be set up so that users can filter items specifically according to allergens - for example, to hide all products containing nuts.

Individual tags can also be created and assigned to items, such as "food for allergy sufferers", "vegetarian" or "spicy". Users can then filter the items according to these tags and find suitable products even faster.

(Cashless) Payment:

What digital payment methods are available?

All common digital payment methods are available via our payment service provider, including Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, credit card and more. Each caterer, restaurateur or event organizer decides individually which payment methods are offered to guests, employees or students in the shopping cart - based on the general payment conditions.

In the catering sector, there are also flexible payment options such as in-app credit, payment by invoice or direct billing via payroll accounting.

Can payroll accounting also be carried out via payroll accounting?

Companies can seamlessly connect their payroll accounting with sizzly . Employees order and pay conveniently via payroll accounting. The total amount of items ordered by an employee - including any allowances - for a defined period is transmitted digitally and automatically to payroll accounting.

If an organization uses an accounting system such as Datev, SAP or similar, this can be integrated directly with sizzly if desired.

What is in-app credit?

In-app credit is a digital credit system for orders and payments in sizzly - especially in the catering sector, for example in company or school canteens.

Employees, pupils, parents or students can conveniently top up their credit in their own sizzly user account. All orders are then billed directly to the credit balance.

Is it possible to install a revaluation machine or a revaluation terminal in addition to the digital credit revaluation?

If you wish, you can continue to provide revaluation stations on site. We configure these flexibly according to your needs, depending on whether revaluations are to be accepted via cash or card payment.

However, a large automatic revaluator is a thing of the past. Today, we rely on smart solutions with a tablet and small card terminal that can be conveniently placed anywhere - with as little hardware as possible.

Can I pay with NFC cards/chips/transponders?

NFC badges and transponders can be easily connected to sizzly and linked to the organization's respective payment system - be it in-app credit or payroll.

NFC transponders already in circulation can be adopted if a list of transponder IDs is available. Alternatively, you can obtain new, pre-configured and optionally personalized NFC chips directly from sizzly .

Can bulk/group orders be paid by invoice?

Collective/group customers can of course pay by invoice. In sizzly , invoices can be viewed per day, week, month or per individual period and are then settled directly by the caterer in the traditional way outside of sizzly .

Can I still use/offer card terminals?

Of course, card terminals can be connected to sizzly or offered in addition to digital payment methods.

Whether it's a cloud-based payment terminal or a brand-new tap-2-pay solution in which a tablet/smartphone acts as a payment terminal - we offer the right solution for every application.

Can I buy/rent a card terminal via sizzly ?

Card terminals can be purchased or rented for a short period of time.

What is Tap-2-Pay?

Tap-2-Pay turns your smartphone into a mobile payment terminal.
Simply hold your card or wallet with Apple/Google Pay to the device you use with sizzly - without any additional terminal. You can buy Tap-2-Pay-enabled smartphones directly from us or rent them on a short-term basis. Use your own device? No problem - we'll check whether it meets the technical requirements.

Hardware/software:

Do I need specific hardware?

No specific hardware is required for sizzly . As all apps run as web applications, they can be used on all end devices - whether PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone.

Additional devices such as receipt printers can also be flexibly connected. Different display sizes can be useful depending on the area of application.

You can use your own hardware or, if required, rent or buy pre-configured devices from sizzly .

Do I need a merchandise management system?

sizzly is an ordering and payment solution and not a merchandise management system.

In the catering app , you catering app manage items including all item data, shops, and orders. However, functions related to purchasing, recipes, or warehousing are not included.

If a merchandise management system is required for your area of application, this can be used in parallel or integrated into sizzly . This enables real-time synchronization of article and order data between the two systems.

Can I find the sizzly apps in the Appstore?

No. sizzly is a browser-based web application and can therefore be opened on any internet-enabled device via any browser. Access is via the specific URL communicated by the respective organization or event.

There are various reasons why sizzly is a web app: from accessibility to security issues. You can find a detailed explanation including instructions on how to set up quick access to a web app on your smartphone here.

Can sizzly also be used on a smartphone only?

All sizzly apps are mobile responsive and can also be easily operated on smartphones. However, larger displays offer a better overview for certain applications, such as cash registers or self-order terminals.

We will be happy to advise you on which devices are best suited to your location based on our experience.

Is it possible to connect receipt printers to sizzly ?

Receipt printers can be connected to sizzly by arrangement. If new receipt printers are required, these can also be set up via sizzly or purchased from our partner network.

Are there self-order terminals from sizzly?

A self-order terminal is ideal for enabling employees, students and the like to order (and top up their credit if necessary) on site - without the need for personal devices.

We configure the terminal in various sizes to suit your requirements, from compact tablets with wall mounts to large touchscreens.

You can log in either by entering your user data or conveniently by scanning your employee or student ID card.

Does sizzly require an Internet connection?

All sizzly require a permanent active internet connection for real-time data synchronization. It does not matter whether the internet connection is via LAN, WiFi, mobile phone, or hotspot. As a backup option or for remote event locations, for example, we can partner provide M2M SIM cards through our partner .

POS system:

Do I need a POS system?

This depends on the respective area of application, but in most cases a POS system is necessary. If a POS system is already in use, it can be integrated with sizzly if desired. Alternatively, sizzly offers an integrated cloud POS module that can be used as a fully functional POS system.

Can I use sizzly as a POS system?

sizzly be used as a POS system via the integrated cloud POS. If the POS module is booked, it can be catering app in the catering app .

Do vouchers contain a TSE signature?

On request, all receipts created digitally via sizzly receive a TSE signature.

Is it possible to issue digital hospitality receipts?

Yes, in the ordering app , guests/employees ordering app the option of requesting a hospitality receipt for a specific order and filling it out digitally. It can then be downloaded digitally as a PDF file.

What is the difference to a conventional POS system?

sizzly is based on a cloud POS system. All the functions of a POS system are available. The major advantage of the cloud solution is its hardware independence, as sizzly , including the POS module, can be used on all end devices without the need for a traditional POS terminal. This saves you high hardware costs.

Do I have to organize accessories myself or can I purchase suitable accessories from sizzly ?

Yes, deposits can be easily mapped in the sizzly app - from classic bottle and glass deposits to reusable containers, including deposit and return tracking.

Is it also possible to refund the deposit digitally via sizzly ?

Deposits in any form can be refunded digitally to the payment method used to place the order. An independent cash refund is of course still possible.

Can reusable systems be integrated with sizzly ?

Returnable systems from third-party providers can be recorded or integrated in sizzly on request. 

Can deposit return machines be linked to sizzly ?

Vending machine systems as well as deposit return machines can be integrated with sizzly on request.

Service/operating environment:

Is there a digital tipping function?

Yes, sizzly offers a digital tipping function that can be activated in the shopping cart if required. Guests can either enter a fixed amount or a percentage as a tip.

A report can be used to either distribute the tips evenly among the service staff or allocate them individually.

How can service staff place table orders digitally?

Service staff can use a smartphone or tablet to place table orders of their choice, which are sent directly to the kitchen or bar.

Can guests order & pay themselves via a QR code at the table?

Guests can gastronomy order and pay in the gastronomy using their own smartphone via QR code.

The transmission of the table number is optional. Orders can either be brought directly to the table by the service team or guests receive an SMS notification as soon as the order is ready - so they can also pick it up themselves.

When a company sizzly automated, integrated payroll accounting system, all consumption is directly offset against the subsidies granted—without any manual intermediate steps.

Employees' contributions are calculated automatically and deducted from their monthly salaries, while subsidies are taken into account by the system. This results in transparent, audit-proof, and fully automated billing for all meals—seamlessly integrated into existing payroll processes.

This not only reduces administrative effort, but also ensures that all services are billed correctly and on time.

Multilingualism & countries of use:

In which languages are the sizzly apps available?

The sizzly apps are currently available in German and English. Other languages can be activated and implemented at any time on request.

Can prices be quoted in different currencies?

Item prices can be displayed in different currencies. The currency display can be flexibly adapted. This means that sizzly easily supports organizations with multiple locations and different currencies.

Is there sizzly support?

Yes, there is sizzly , which can generally be reached by email at sizzly.

It should be noted that the caterer/restaurateur/organizer is responsible for the range of articles themselves & support requests regarding articles must be made directly to them. Requests for specific user accounts, e.g. at companies/schools, must also first be addressed to those responsible within the organization.

Is there a help center?

The assortment, menus and weekly meal plans including prices are maintained directly by the caterer. So if items are missing for a certain period or prices are incorrect, please contact the caterer.

Legal matters:

Is sizzly GDPR compliant?

Yes, sizzly is GDPR-compliant and fulfills all legal requirements resulting from the GDPR.

Where is my data stored?

All data is stored in Germany and the EU and processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy any contract data processing agreement that may be concluded.

Can tax-free subsidies be implemented?

A central feature of the sizzly app is grant management, with which organizations (companies, schools, etc.) can digitally map their existing grant models 1:1 - without having to introduce new models. The sizzly app allows the mapping of simple to highly complex grant systems - with a connection to payroll accounting if required. Specific user roles with associated subsidy rules and limits can be assigned to certain user groups.

Subsidies can be both:

  • absolute (e.g. € 1.00)
  • as well as in percentage terms (e.g. 10 %)

  • Daily, weekly or monthly limits can be defined,
  • the number of subsidized articles per period can be limited,
  • individual subsidy amounts can be stored for each user role,

Tax guidelines can be adhered to, e.g. by complying with statutory maximum amounts. The system remains fully flexible and can be used internationally - ideal for organizations with different requirements depending on location/country.
